BORING SCHOOL POST....NO PHOTOS :)

We finally have it all together!!
We have all of our curriculum for this year!!!

We decided to use more computer programs for
school this year. The big girls were interested
in electives, so we ordered:

FRENCH for Elaine
SPANISH for Anna
& AMERICAN LITERATURE for Elaine

We also decided to "bump" Elaine up to ALL 8th & 9th grade work, to give her
more of a challenge. (If she was in public school, she would be in 7th grade).
So far the challenge has been great for her!! No more boredom!!!

In fact, she told me today, that "High School is HARD".

YAY

She is challenged & learning!!!
Anna started Kindergarten a full year early. So if she was in
public school, she would only be in the 5th grade. She has been
a year ahead her whole school career. She is doing great in
6th grade. We are finally all caught up with Math, and she is doing
MUCH better Writing & Spelling. Anna said that copying down
notes from the sermon each Sunday has really helped
her out with school!!

Emily is the Math Whiz of the family. In fact, she did 35 pages
in her 2nd grade Math book yesterday!!! She tells me "this is too easy".
Our favorite Math Computer program "TEACHING TEXTBOOKS" is introducing
a 3rd grade Math program at the end of November. The website says it is for
3rd graders, or for advanced 2nd graders. Emily certainly fits that description. I can't wait
to order that for her!!! Teaching Textbooks mostly a computer program, but they have
a text/workbook to use too. Emily was a late reader, so we are working hard using Phonics, Language Arts, Spelling and Reading programs this year to bump her skills up.
Little Rosie: the one who knows the most (and the one I have taught the least)
She is amazing. She learned to write her name at 3, knows all of her numbers, the alphabet,
and knows how to read small words. I have not taught her any of this!! She picked up
everything from her sisters. In fact, Elaine told me she was the one
who taught Rosie how to write her name.

We are super scheduled when it comes to the school year, and last year the girls finally chose
not to 'fight me' when we gathered around the table for school. We are very focused,
and when school is in session, we do not allow the radio, tv, or any non school computer games
to be played.

Last year, Amelia just decided on her own that she wanted to "do school" too.
Actually we called it ~HORSEY SCHOOL~ because she loves horses so much, I got her some horse coloring books, and she loved to color them. She got to do special things while the sisters were working. She loves to paint, play playdough, color, board games, do the aqua doodle mat, play with beads....all kinds of hands on games and toys just for her. It kept her totally entertained, and I guess she picked up alot without even trying!!

So this school year, I got a bunch of K and 1st grade workbooks for her, and we are focusing
mainly on phonics. I can tell she is going to be a strong reader, and I my goal for her is to
have her reading by the end of this school year.

I really am so proud of them working so hard last year and this year. Homeschooling
is not for everyone, but I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
