SPOON RIVER..................

Spoon River Drive is so special to me. My Grandma used to take me each year when I was little. I really cannot remember a time that I did not go on the drive!! She loved Flea Markets and antiques, and she would always tell the best stories about her childhood while we drove along. She would point out antiques and tell me what purpose they served back in the day (something I find myself doing with my girls) The drive is so beautiful with the changing of the fall colors, seeing the old Wolf Covered Bridge, tasting the yummy treats along the way...
the memories go on and on...

So, needless to say, but I look more forward to those two weekends in October more than any other time during the year.

I had THE MOST FUN EVER on Spoon River Drive this year. Saturday I went with the big girls, and we hit all of my favorite spots. I came home with a van full of goodies!!!

Elaine said that she had the best pulled pork sandwich of her life!!!

Anna & I shared ROTATERS, roasted pecans, and a great Lemon shake up---YUM

Here is some of my haul:
(not pictured...a bunch of old calico blue quilts)

Wes wanted to go on Sunday, so we headed out after church to Knoxville. They serve Chili and other soups in the Old Knoxville Firehouse. We eat there every year. It is a volunteer fire department, and all of the guys help cook and serve the food. They also have a firetruck for the kids to look at climb on. It is really a neat place to eat lunch, and cheap too!! Our whole meal was $8.00!!!

Across from the Firehouse, is the Old Jail. This jail was used from about 1840 to 1873. The jailer's family lived in it with him!!! It was a bit spooky inside, but also awesome, the kids loved it!!!

This is where they kept the prisoners

Here is another cell upstairs:

Emily peeking through the cell door.

The girls got their faces painted in Knoxville Park.

Here is the little log cabin in the park.
There was a lady demonstrating a loom inside.

Horseback riding of course!!!

Here is our little cowgirl :)

Emily chose "TAZ" to ride on.

Here we are at the WALNUT GROVE FARM

( aka the Barn in Knoxville ) They have a bunch of handmade items, carvings, rag rugs, dried flowers and more all displayed in the barn. There is one vendor that hand carves little wooden birds. My sister Stephanie gets a new bird from them each year.
(I have a couple of birds from previous years) They are some of my favorite ornaments for our tree. The barn also has a Holiday Open house each year, on Thanksgiving weekend. I hope to finally make it there this year!!

They also give horse drawn carriage rides from these
great Belgian Horses.
